Platform (fr. plateforme from plat - flat + forme - shape) - an open-type freight car designed to transport long, piece cargo, containers and equipment that do not require weather protection.
Platforms are divided into universal (for the transportation of various goods of a large range) and specialized (for the transportation of goods of a certain type). Universal platforms have a powerful steel welded frame with a wooden or wood-metal flooring and metal folding side and end boards. The flooring of the platform is supported by additional frame beams. End boards in the open position serve as bridges for self-propelled loading of wheeled vehicles.
