The German light all-wheel drive armored car Sd.Kfz.223 was a radio communication vehicle for reconnaissance units. It was developed by Eisenwerken Weserhutte on the Horch 801/EG chassis. In 1935–1944, 550 cars were produced.
Light two-axle armored radio vehicles were mainly in the kit of tank divisions of the Wehrmacht. They took part in the Polish and French campaigns, and then in Operation Barbarossa. In the conditions of the Russian off-road, it became clear that light armored vehicles have limited tactical mobility. Their use in the German-African corps was much more effective.
