The FV603 Saracen is a six-wheeled armored personnel carrier built by Alvis and used by the British Army. It became a recognizable vehicle due to its involvement in the policing of Northern Ireland, as well as its role in enforcing apartheid in South Africa. In addition to the driver and the commander, a squad of eight soldiers plus the unit commander could be transported. Most models had a small turret on the roof with a Browning .30 machine gun. The .303 Bren gun could be mounted on an anti-aircraft ring mount, which was accessed through a hatch in the roof and had holes in the sides through which troops could fire. The Saracen was used as an armored personnel carrier, an armored command vehicle, and an ambulance.
