The XM-706 E1 (V-100) was built by Cadillac Gage from 1964 and was used extensively in Vietnam for reconnaissance, convoy escort and base perimeter defense. It was initially deployed by the US Army and Air Force, as well as the ARVN and Thai forces, and was later used by many other military and police organizations around the world. The M706 was equipped with a V8 gasoline engine with a capacity of 215 hp. with amphibious capability, four-wheel drive and high ground clearance. The XM706 was equipped with a T-50 turret that could be armed with 2 M37 .30 caliber machine guns, 2 M73 7.62x51mm machine guns, and FN MAG and M60.
