German-Dutch family of multi-purpose armored vehicles of the modular system. The combat wheeled armored vehicle can be equipped with a variety of weapons and is intended for use in motorized rifle units of the ground forces. The cost of "Boxer" is about €3 million per unit. The machine was created by the German firms Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, Rheinmetall AG and the Dutch Stork. The delivery of the first of 272 Boxer armored personnel carriers to the German armed forces began in September 2009. The Dutch Armed Forces will receive the first Boxers in 2011 (a total of 200 units have been ordered). Germany is aiming for the Boxer (8x8) to partially or completely replace the wheeled Fuchs (6x6) and M113 tracked armored personnel carriers currently in service with the Bundeswehr. The 33-ton Boxer is designed to meet the requirements of the German IdZ programs (future infantryman), which are currently assigned to the FuInfoSys command and information system in the German army.
