During the Second World War, the BM-13-16 "Katyusha" rocket salvo system became a symbol of Soviet rocket artillery power. After the war, the launch system was installed on a new ZiL-157 chassis with high cross-country ability. The artillery part of the system is formed by 8 two-sided rail-type launch guides with 16 M-13 rockets (132 mm). The BM-14-16 rocket salvo fire system was developed in the early 50s. The artillery part of the system consists of 16 launchers with 16 M-140 turbojet shells. The BM-24-12 anti-aircraft missile system was the most powerful jet system of its class in the world in the mid-1950s and early 1970s.
