The most numerous and famous tank in world history was the Soviet T-34. Developed in the design bureau of the Kharkov plant No. 183 under the supervision of M.I. Koshkin.
Its serial production began in 1940. It was the first serial medium tank with projectile-proof armor, a powerful diesel engine and a 76.2 mm long-barreled gun. It was the best tank in the world until the end of 1941.
A modification with an improved hexagonal cast turret, called the "nut", was produced since 1942.
The T-34 with a 76.2 mm F-34 gun was the main Soviet medium tank until the end of 1944, when it was replaced by the more powerful armed T-34-85. In 1940-1944, 35,467 T-34/76 tanks were produced at six factories.
