A34 "Comet" (English A34 Comet) is a British medium cruiser tank of the Second World War, produced from 1944 to the end of 1945. Further development of the Mk VIII "Cromwell" cruiser tank. Armed with a modification of the 17-pounder HV anti-tank gun, lighter in weight and with a shorter barrel than the original version, but with slightly less armor penetration (to avoid confusion with the original 17-pounder, its caliber was often listed as 77 mm, although in fact it was actually the same 76.2 mm).
It proved to be effective in the fight against medium and heavy tanks of the Wehrmacht. In fact, it was no longer purely a cruiser, but a main battle tank.
After the war, it was in service with the troops of Great Britain until 19
