Soviet light (small according to the classification of its time) amphibious tank of the period of the Second World War. In December of the same year, the T-40 was adopted by the Red Army and mass-produced at plant number 37. The production of the T-40, including its land-based variants, continued until December 1941, when it was replaced on assembly lines by a more powerful light tank T -60. A total of 930 serial vehicles were produced, which took an active part in the battles of the Great Patriotic War in 1941-1942. On the basis of the T-40 in 1941, the first self-propelled unit BM-8-24 of the class of multiple launch rocket systems on a tank chassis was built. A small number of surviving T-40s were used as training vehicles until the end of the war.
