Leopard 1 is the second-generation main battle tank, was developed and manufactured in West Germany. Before the appearance of the new model Leopard 2, it was simply called Leopard (German Kampfpanzer Leopard). Adopted in 1965. It was believed that modern highly effective cumulative ammunition would reduce the value of the reservation, so the main attention was focused on the striking power and maneuverability of the machine.
It became the first German tank created after World War II. Work on the tank began jointly with France in the 1950s, but later the cooperation ceased, but on the basis of joint developments, the German Leopard and the French AMX-30 were created.
