LWS (short for German Landwasserschlepper) was a German tracked amphibious WWII amphibious vehicle. Design work on it began in 1935, but only in 1940 were the first copies ready. The manufacturer was the concern Rheinmetall-Borsig. Initially, the design was supposed to be used during the landings in England in 1940, but when this did not happen, LWS was used mainly for transportation along the great rivers of Russia. The drive was provided by a 300 hp Maybach HL-120 engine. The car was produced in small batches and after 1940 was definitely considered a secondary project. In 1944, he entered service with the LWS II, built on the basis of the Pz.Kpfw IV tank.
