The main part of the German Wehrmacht's vehicle fleet during World War II consisted of 3-ton trucks. One of the most numerous of them was the V3000S, produced since 1941 at the German Ford plants in Cologne. This truck was equipped with a V8 engine and had only rear-wheel drive.
V3000S trucks were widely used in all branches of the German armed forces until the end of the war everywhere - on the Soviet-German front, in North Africa, Italy, France. In off-road conditions, the non-4WD vehicles showed poor cross-country ability, so 13,952 V3000S were produced as Maultier half-tracks. Some of them had shelters and were used as ambulances.
