The U.S. Army's Liberty trucks, produced at the end of World War I, were the world's first attempt to create a standardized series of military vehicles that were mass-produced by several firms from standardized units.
The most famous were cars of category B (series 1) with a carrying capacity of 3 tons, which were produced by 15 American companies from the beginning of 1918. These were hooded trucks with an open cab, equipped with a 4-cylinder engine, worm gear rear axle cardan drive and solid tires.
By the end of the war, 9,452 Liberty trucks had been assembled, of which 7,600 were shipped to Europe.
