U-Boot (German: Unterseeboot) is a generalized abbreviation of German submarines that were in service with the German naval forces:
Kaiserlichmarine - during the First World War;
Reichsmarine - after the First World War;
Krigsmarine - during the Second World War;
Bundesmarine - after the Second World War to the present.
Although according to naval theory, this type of warship was to be used in the fight against enemy naval forces, in practice, U-Boats were mostly famous for their effectiveness in economic warfare (raiding, coastal blockade), in which they participated during the First and Second World Wars.
