The British Aerospace Sea Harrier is a fighter with VTOL/STOVL (Short take-off and vertical landing) characteristics developed to equip the embarked flight units of the British Royal Navy. It entered active service in the late 1970s and early 1980s with the primary role of fleet air defense. In 1982, embarked on HMS Invincible and HMS Hermes, it participated in the Falklands War, demonstrating its operational effectiveness. Although equipped with subsonic flight characteristics, decidedly inferior to adversary aircraft such as the Mirage III, it was extremely maneuverable and reliable in all operating conditions. The Sea Harrier was also equipped with good offensive armament consisting of two 30 mm guns. ADEN, installed in pods under the fuselage, and 4 underwing pylons for the use of air-to-air missiles.
