Description
The first serial Ki-10 fighters began to enter the troops in December 1935. Military pilots highly appreciated the speed and rate of climb of the new fighter. Soon, however, insistent requests began to come to Kawasaki from combat units to improve the horizontal maneuverability of the machine. In Japanese aviation during this period, the point of view prevailed that the fighter must first of all meet the requirements of highly maneuverable close combat in turns like the "dog dump" (dog fight) of the First World War. In addition, the Ki-10 had insufficient directional stability, which made it difficult to accurately aim and fire.
