Fiat CR.42 Falco - a single-seat fighter, was the main fighter of the Regia Aeronautica (Italian Air Force) in the initial period of World War II. The aircraft was developed in the design bureau of the company "Fiat" under the leadership of Celestino Rosatelli. Fiat CR.42 became the crown of the evolution of fighters created by Rosatelli. Rosatelli built his first fighter, the Fiat CR.1, in 1924, and the last, the CR.42, took to the air for the first time on May 23, 1938. At that time, biplane fighters were already considered anachronisms - the future was for monoplane fighters with a low-lying wing. Nevertheless, the test pilot after the first flight of the plane called it the largest machine.
