The armored locomotive Ov of the OB-3 type, as the traction force of an armored train (BEPO), was developed in the USSR in 1941 in the first months of the war. Armored locomotives of almost all BEPOs of the OB-3 type were made according to uniform drawings (prototype "Marshal Budyonny") by armoring a steam locomotive of the "Ov" series, and therefore had a similar scheme of armored hulls.
