The main difference between this missile and the previous one lies in the method of overcoming enemy air defense and missile defense systems. This rocket maneuvers during flight. It also carries both active and passive lures. It is estimated that this missile has a 60-65% chance of penetrating defenses.
Road mobile TEL "Topol-M" was created on the basis of the Belarusian heavy highly mobile chassis MZKT-79221 (formerly MAZ-7922) with a wheel arrangement of 16x16. This chassis was specially designed for this ICBM.
