T-62 (GBTU Index - Object 166) is a Soviet second-generation medium and main battle tank. The world's first tank with a smoothbore gun in production.
Although the T-62 became a standard tank in the Soviet arsenal, it did not fully replace the T-55 in export markets due to higher production costs and maintenance requirements compared to its predecessor.
T-62s were actively used during the Iran-Iraq War, the Yom Kippur War, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the First and Second Russo-Chechen Wars, and the Russian invasion of Georgia. Since 2022, the russian Armed Forces have been used in armed aggression against Ukraine.
