The 2S14 was a variant of the BTR-70 designed for rapid anti-tank protection of wheeled units of motorized rifle divisions, marines and airborne troops.
The mobile system, based on the BTR-70, included a new lightly armored turret, had a muzzle that was 80% effective (meaning less stress on the turret/hull when fired), and retained the speed of the original wheeled chassis. It was subsequently designated 2S14 Zhalo-C (Sting-S). 2S14 was found to be good EXCEPT that the 85mm gun could NOT penetrate the frontal armor of existing tanks, enemy or domestic. In the same period of time (1968-1973), both improved AT-3 missiles and the AT-4 missile system went into production, which led to the complete disappearance of the 2C14 Zhalo-S.
