XM-706 E2 (V-100) - The major change to the V-100 compared to the Army version was a weapons platform instead of a turret. The platform had bifold doors that were surrounded by short-sloped Cadalloy armor walls with mounting points for M60 and M2 MGs. The XM-706E2 was not required for convoy escort duties, but for airbase security, which consisted of patrolling large airbase perimeters and long runways. The first deliveries of the US Air Force XM-706E2 arrived in late 1968 to air bases in Vietnam and then to Thailand. and the Philippines somewhat later.
