BMP-2D. The chassis of the BMP-2 is almost identical to the earlier BMP-1, but has increased armor protection. The driver sits in the front of the car on the left side. On the BMP-1, the commander sits behind the mechanic-driver, and on the BMP-2, he is moved to the tower, so this place is occupied by an infantryman. The BMP-2 has a new two-seat all-welded steel turret with a +74° 30mm 2A42 gun. BMP-2D is equipped with additional steel overlay armor of the spaced type on the sides of the hull and overlay armor on the tower with a thickness of 6 mm. The added weight makes the vehicle no longer amphibious.
