Description
The Mark I was a British heavy tank during the First World War. Designed in 1916. The first tank in history used in combat (September 15, 1916, Battle of the Somme). The ancestor of the family of British "diamond-shaped" tanks.
The decision to build tanks was made in 1915, and finally the first model of the tank (a tank, that is, it was called a "tank" in order to misinform the enemy when transported by rail) was ready in 1916, when it was tested and the first order for 100 vehicles entered production. It was the Mk.1 tank - a rather imperfect fighting vehicle, produced in two versions - "female" (eng. Female) (only with machine guns) and "male" (eng. Male) (machine gun and two 57-mm cannons) .
