Soviet medium tank.
It was created in 1943-1944 by the design bureau of Uralvagonzavod under the leadership of A. A. Morozov and was intended to replace the T-34 as the main medium tank of the Red Army.
Despite the significant external resemblance to the T-34-85, structurally the T-44 had little in common with it and was a representative of a qualitatively new generation of tanks, which included the post-war T-54.
Serial production of the T-44 began in 1944, but during the Great Patriotic War it was carried out on a limited scale in order to prevent a reduction in the production of the T-34-85 during large-scale offensive operations.
The tank did not take part in the hostilities of the Great Patriotic War.
