Development of the Jagdtiger (Tiger Hunting) began in February 1943, and on October 20, 1943, a wooden model was presented to Adolf Hitler. The role of the Jagdtiger was to support infantry and armored fighting vehicles at long distances. Two prototypes, one with Porsche suspension (consisting of 8 wishbones) and one with Henschel suspension (consisting of 9 wishbones) were completed in February 1944. Its first designation was Jagdpanzer VI, but it was later designated Jagdtiger and given the number Sd.Kfz.186.
