M3 Stuart (English M3 Stuart) is an American light tank of the Second World War. Named in honor of the Major General of the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War, Jeb Stuart.
The M3 was created in 1938-1941 on the basis of the M2 light tank. "Stuart" was mass-produced from March 1941 to June 1944, and was repeatedly modernized during production. A total of 23,685 tanks of this type were built, making the Stuart the most numerous light tank in the history of world tank building.
In World War II, the Stuart was actively used by the US troops, and was also supplied in significant quantities under the Lend-Lease program to Great Britain, the USSR, China, and the Free French troops. After the w
