To solve the problem of fear of insufficient armor protection on the already heavily armored KV-1 mod. 1941, it was decided to increase the armor protection of the turret to a thickness of 75 mm. Since it was not possible to manufacture such a thick armor plate at that time, an intermediate solution was to use 25 mm thick bolted armor, bolted directly to the outside of the turret and some other parts of the hull. This type was usually called KV-1s Screens.
