Krauss-Maffeir in Munich took over the operation of the 8-tonne half-track. Since this company had been focusing on half-track research since 1928, they created a prototype, called the KMm7, back in 1933. It soon evolved into the KMm8 and KMm9, and in 1936 the KMm10 went into production. Only after the birth of the KMm10 did the 8-ton half-track tractor receive the official designation “Medium 8-ton tractor (Sd.Kfz-7). The last production model, KMm11, was built in 1938 and immediately went into production.
By the end of World War II, production of 8-ton half-tracks was approximately 1,200. One of these models was an 8-ton half-track vehicle with a 20-mm four-barreled anti-aircraft machine gun (Sd.kfz 7/1).
