Work on the light tank VK 31 (called "Kleintraktor" to maintain secrecy, from German - "small tractor") began two years later than on the heavy "Grosstraktor". On March 28, 1928, the Wehrmacht High Command announced a competition to develop a tracked combat vehicle weighing up to 12 tons.
