The most numerous and famous tank in world history was the Soviet T-34. Developed in the Design Bureau of Kharkov Plant No. 183 under the supervision of M.I. Koshkin.
Its serial production began in 1940. It was the first serial tank with shell-proof armor, a powerful diesel engine and a 76.2 mm long-barreled gun. It was the best tank in the world until the end of 1941.
A modification with an improved turret, called the "nut", was produced since 1942.
The T-34 with the 76.2 mm F-34 gun was the main Soviet medium tank until the end of 1944, when it was replaced by the more powerfully armed T-34-85. In 1940-1944, 35,467 T-34/76 tanks were produced at six factories. In the Wehrmacht, captured T-34s were designated Pz.Kpf
