Along with projects that used the powerful 88-mm PaK43 anti-tank gun, such as the Ferdinand self-propelled gun, the Jagdpanther and the Tiger-II tank, there was the “Waffenträger” (“Squire”) project, in which such companies and designers as: Ardelt, Krupp, MAN and Alkett. As a result, several layouts were presented, from which the Ardelt (pictured) and Alkett projects were selected. The further fate of the Alkett prototype is unknown.
The project was distinguished by its low weight (11 tons), weak armor (up to 20mm) and low-power engine (100 hp). Accordingly, it could potentially only be used at a long firing range, with weak opposition from enemy artillery.
