In the early days of its service, the French FT-17 light tank was equipped with a riveted turret, which had some disadvantages, such as a complex manufacturing process, poor bulletproof properties and the inability to fully rotate.

Later, Forges et aciéries Paul Girod developed a new cast turret of riveted-welded construction. The new turret, made using simplified technology, could achieve full rotation, which helped improve the overall performance of the tank.
