The Chieftain is a second generation British main battle tank developed in the late 1950s. It was the main equipment of the British Army from the 1960s to the 1980s and had many variations. With priority given to firepower and protection, this tank was equipped with the most advanced 120 mm L11A5 rifled gun in the world at that time. The excellent characteristics of the gun made Chieftain famous. Thick cast armor was used in the frontal part of the hull and turret. Tanks from the Mk10 onwards received additional Stillbrew armor for added protection. Later installation of a 750 hp engine. also improved the poor mobility of earlier versions.
