“Panther is the generic name for a medium tank fielded by Nazi Germany during World War II, which served from mid-1943 until the end of the European war in 1945.
The Panther's superb combination of firepower, mobility and protection served as a benchmark for other nations' tank designs at the end of the war and immediately after the war, and is often considered one of the finest examples of World War II tanks.
Although it had essentially the same engine as the Tiger I tank, it had better frontal armor, better gun penetration, was lighter overall and therefore faster, and could handle rough terrain better than the Tigers.
