The AML-90 (Auto Mitrailleuse Légère, or "Light Machine Gun Car") is a fast, long-range and relatively cheap armored vehicle with excellent reconnaissance capabilities. Designed on a small, lightly armored 4×4 chassis, it weighs approximately 5.5 tons and is suitable for air deployment. The AML-90 was designed to perform rearguard tasks and replace heavier tanks and armored fighting vehicles that are deployed more linearly at the front. Its main feature was the DEFA 90 mm low-pressure rifled gun. Since 1959, AML has been sold on five continents.
