ZIL-131 was the main all-terrain truck of the Soviet Army in the 70-80s. Its serial production began in 1967. This truck was distinguished by its high reliability and cross-country ability.
The basic model was used mainly as a personnel carrier or a 5-ton truck.
These trucks were supplied to the Warsaw Pact countries, as well as to many countries in Asia and Africa.
There were many modifications of the ZIL-131 for the Soviet and civilian army. From 1967 to 1990, the ZIL plant produced about 1,000,000 trucks. The improved ZIL-131N model was produced from 1986, then production was transferred to the Ural Automobile Plant.
