The first prototypes of the MAZ-537 were built in 1958, and mass production began in 1960. The new car was equipped with a 525 hp engine. many significant changes in the fuel supply system, cooling and lubrication systems, which required a complete repainting of the engine compartment covers and blinds. Almost all frame and chassis components have been strengthened, and the overall weight has increased to 21.6 tons (total gross weight of 87 tons), which allows towing a load of up to 50 tons.
