The three-axle Studebaker US6 truck was developed by Studebaker Corporation in 1941. The vehicle had a robust design and good load capacity, and its 6-cylinder Hercules JXD engine with a capacity of 94 hp provided the Studebaker US6 with high off-road performance. In total, about 200,000 vehicles of thirteen modifications were manufactured. The Studebaker US6-U5 version was a general purpose fuel tanker equipped with a 750-gallon (2,840 liter) Heil tank. The tank consisted of two 375-gallon tanks arranged in tandem. There were also racks on the sides of the tank for storing 5-gallon fuel cans.
