Germany began to build a modern army after 1933. An important part of the Wehrmacht's motorization was the production of three-axle 3-ton trucks. One of them was the Krupp L3H63. It was produced since 1931. The Krupp L3H163 modification (1936–1938) had a 6-cyl. 110 hp gasoline engine and a pneumatic brake.
A total of about 2000 Krupp L3H63 and L3H163 were produced. Krupp L3H163 trucks were widely used by all German forces until 1942.
Some chassis had special bodies. One of them was the Kfz.72 van body. These vehicles were used as transmitters and transceivers in powerful A/B mobile radio stations.
