The SdKfz 223 was a modified version of the SdKfz 221 light armored car and was equipped with a long-range radio.
The production of vehicles began in 1935, and until January 1944, 550 such armored vehicles were produced by Weserhuette, MNH and Bussing-NAG in four series.
Since May 1942, they began to be assembled on the SdKfz 222 chassis. The vehicles entered service with Panzerspaehwagen squadrons and were used on all fronts. SdKfz 223 along with SdKfz 222 were also sold to Bulgaria.
