The Renault AG1 car appeared in 1907. Due to their strength and reliability, these cars became the most popular Parisian taxi in 1908-1914 (more than 2,000 units). On September 5-6, 1914, 1,300 Paris Renault AG1s were used by the French Army to transport 6,000 soldiers from Paris to the Battle of the Marne, where French forces stopped the German advance. Paris taxis "Renault" began to be called "Taxi de la Marne", and the French said: "The taxi saved Paris."
