In February 1978, "Minsk" officially became part of the USSR Navy and completed military service in the former USSR Pacific Fleet. There are eight missile launchers located on the forward deck, as well as a number of other functional missile launchers on four sides of the upper deck. The aircraft carrier is also equipped with four conventional 76mm guns, making it very different from US Navy ships. "Minsk" is the first aircraft carrier carrying vertical and short-range take-off fighters on board.
