Mogami is a heavy cruiser of the Imperial Japanese Navy, which took part in World War II.
The ship, which belonged to the Mogami-type cruisers, was built in 1935 at the Kure Naval Shipyard. A feature of cruisers of this type was the installation of main-caliber turrets with three 155-mm guns, which allowed them to be classified as light cruisers. At the same time, the designers immediately considered the possibility of replacing the turrets with traditional ones with two 203-mm guns, which they did in the late 1930s and transferred the ships to the heavy cruiser class (the previous turrets were transferred to Yamato-type battleships - however, their 155-mm universal guns turned
