The second ship of the Zeppelin-type aircraft carrier was named after Peter Strasser, commander of German airships during World War I. It was planned to be built by a German factory in Kiel, and construction began in 1938. Due to disputes between the German air forces over ownership of the aircraft, the beginning of World War II led to the cancellation of the construction of the aircraft carrier on March 26, 1940, mainly due to Hitler's decision to use most of the fleet's funds for the development of submarines.
