For cooking in combat conditions, the Wehrmacht used field kitchens of various types: large, for the number of personnel from 125 to 225 people, and smaller kitchens for 60 to 125 people. Trophy field kitchens were also used. They were transported either on a trailer behind cars or by a team of horses. These kitchens, which the soldier's humor called 'Gulaschkanone', made it possible to cook a variety of dishes. A large cauldron with a heat-insulating layer (glycerin was used for this) was used to prepare the main dishes. In the kitchens of late models, a separate cauldron for frying appeared.
