Yeomen Warders is the general name of the guard of the British Tower of London. The history of the formation dates back to 1485, when it was created by order of King Henry VII of the Tudor dynasty. For a very long time, it was recruited from among wealthy English peasants (English Yeomen), which also gave rise to the name of the unit. In the past, the main tasks of the Yeomen Warders were to guard prisoners held in the Tower and to protect the insignia of the queens and kings of England. Today, the unit is recruited from among former soldiers of various branches of the British armed forces - a mandatory requirement for joining is 22 years of impeccable service.
