Steel plates M8A1 were a covering for airfields, developed by the US engineering services. The plates were used primarily for the rapid construction of temporary runways. Such plates were used in the Vietnam War in the second half of the 1960s and early 1970s, most often in army aviation (for basing helicopters, light attack aircraft and observation aircraft). They can be seen in many photographs of that time. One plate had a size of 3660 x 560 mm, it had a rigid corrugated surface that drained rainwater well. Installation was carried out by engineering units of the US Army.
