Description
A family of American twin-engine combat helicopters based on the single-engine AH-1 Cobra. Includes modifications AH-1J and AH-1T "Sea Cobra", AH-1W "Super Cobra". Currently, the AH-1W is the main attack helicopter of the US Marine Corps. In the early 80s, the US Marine Corps needed a new marine helicopter, the option of buying a McDonnell Douglas AH-64 Apache was considered, but in 1981 Congress did not allocate funding for this. The Marine Corps then had to show interest in a more powerful version of the AH-1T. This version had an advanced fire control system using AIM-9 Sidewinder and AGM-114 Hellfire missiles.
