The Mi-4 attack helicopter was the product of an ultimatum issued by Joseph Stalin in October 1951 to design and build a transport helicopter within 12 months.
This is a piston aircraft designed for unarmed military transport.
About 3,000 were built for military service in the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact countries, as well as for civilian operations with the Soviet national airline Aeroflot, before production ended in 1969.
A large four-bladed main rotor is mounted at the top of the midsection of the fuselage, while a single-piston engine is mounted in the nose.
